Scripture – “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Romans 12:2 NIV
Observation – Don’t follow what everyone else is doing with their lives but be transformed into who God wants you to be by learning God’s word and putting it into practice. When you do this you will know right from wrong and can live a life that pleases God.
Application – Depending on where you live, the world has a pattern, or a path, laid out for you to follow. If you live in America the pattern has become “you be you”. Whatever makes you happy is the path you need to follow. You come first. This mindset embraces entertainment, self-care, quitting a job if you don’t like it and a disregard for future consequences. God calls us to not conform to the pattern of this world but to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. This happens first of all by recognizing that we are not the center of the universe – Jesus is, and our role on this planet is to have a relationship with him. When we get to know Jesus through reading the Bible, praying, spending time learning more about him and meditating on his word our lives are transformed from selfish people who mostly look out for themselves to servants of God and servants to our fellowman. This is a supernatural work that occurs when God removes our hearts of stone and gives hearts of flesh. This can only happen when we confess our sins and ask Jesus to forgive us, believing that his death on the cross was payment for our life of sin.
Prayer – Jesus, I pray that your followers would truly desire transformation. Amen.
