Scripture – “The LORD said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.””

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭4‬:‭11‬-‭12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – God is telling Moses that he has been chosen to speak to Pharaoh on behalf of God and the Israelites in order that the Israelites can go worship God for three days. Moses tells God that he can’t speak well in hopes that God will choose someone else. God responds with, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”

Application – Often times when God instructs us to do something we picture ourselves in that situation and rehearse what we are going to say and anticipate what the other person will say. This can be helpful but it can also create fear in us that keeps us from obeying. God says to Moses and to us, “Now go; I will help you speak and teach you what to say.” Jesus says in Matthew 10:19-20 “But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” Next time you are fearful to do what God has instructed you to do, remember Exodus 4:11-12, Matthew 10:19-20 and 2 Chronicles 16:9a “For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.”

Prayer – Lord God, creator of heaven and earth, help us to trust you so much that we go where you tell us to go and do what you have told us to do, knowing with 100% certainty that you are at work and that you are with us. Amen.
