Scripture – “When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.”
Romans 6:20-22 NIV
Observation – God says that no one is “free”. We are either slaves to sin or we are slaves of God. We are always being controlled by sin or by God.
Application – This is why addictions are so difficult to break. We are slaves to that sin. We may not want to do it again but we have very little say, it controls us and tells us what we are going to do. God is more powerful than our sin, when we surrender our lives to him, the Holy Spirit comes in and occupies our hearts and takes control of our lives, it is at this point we can have victory. Where are you today? Are you a slave to sin or a slave to Christ.
Prayer – Lord Jesus, I pray you set those free who are enslaved by sin and for those who know you, I pray that would be obedient today. Amen.
