Scripture – “The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires.”
Proverbs 11:6 NIV
Observation – People that are living a holy life are delivered from the sins that cause the unfaithful person to stumble which ultimately leads to a decimated life.
Application -The righteous person’s identity is that they are a child of God. This child loves their Father so much they want to bring joy to their Father so obedience to God’s commands flows out of love not obligation. As 1 John 5:3 states, “This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome.” The righteous person thinks that obeying God’s commands, loving people and serving people is fun. Tony Evans compares our service to God as a mother caring for her newborn. It is hard work but it isn’t a burden. This new mom loves her baby so much that caring for her baby is the joy of her life. A faithful person obeys God’s commands and is trustworthy, by contrast an unfaithful person is someone who disobeys God and can’t be trusted. The unfaithful man has no foundation, as a result they are dominated by evil desires and cannot escape them. They become trapped by these desires and, even though these behaviors are ruining their lives, they can’t stop. If you are being trapped by evil desires confess your sins to Jesus and ask him to forgive you and deliver you. This is what he does! He is all-powerful and loves you! Give him your life and see if he doesn’t do a better job with it than you have.
Prayer – Lord Jesus, thank you that when a person comes to you they are a new creation, the old is gone and the new has come. Thank you that you take people whose lives once wreaked havoc and destruction and now they bring life and peace. That is unbelievable. Thank you.
