Scripture – “The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice” Proverbs 12:15

Observation – A fool is convinced they are right. Some fools never ask for advice because they are 100% sure their way is correct. Other fools ask for advice but don’t take it because, again, they are convinced they are smarter than everyone else. The wise man understands that his desires and emotions may influence his decision so he asks people that have wisdom, understanding and insight to provide their opinions so he can make a good choice.

Application – Terry Looper wrote a book called A Sacred Pace. It provides four steps to help make wise decisions:

  1. Pray and ask Jesus for help in making the right decision
  2. Seek wise counsel and do research
  3. Look for circumstances
  4. Get neutral

Getting neutral means that if you don’t have confirmation from God that your decision is what he wants you to do then you do nothing and wait. Getting neutral is hard because it means you have to put aside your preferences and make sure that what you are doing is Gods plan for you. This requires trusting God and believing that he cares about every area of your life. Think about how different your life would be if you were in constant prayer with your Heavenly Father asking for his input on everything.

Prayer – Lord God, help us to become wise by coming to you with everything in our lives. Thank you for making us, providing for us and giving us the privilege of being able to talk with you anytime we want.
