Scripture – “I call with all my heart; answer me, LORD, and I will obey your decrees. I call out to you; save me and I will keep your statutes. I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word. My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises.”
Psalms 119:145-148 NIV
Observation – The writer is calling out to God with all his heart, he is calling out for God to save him, he is rising before dawn and crying out for help and he is staying up late to meditate on God’s promises. This doesn’t sound like a person who is “living their best life”. In subsequent verses he tells us that men are devising wicked schemes and that he needs God to deliver him because he is suffering.
Application – When are you more likely to call out to God with all your heart and be very careful to obey his decrees? Do you get up early and stay up late when everything is going your way or do you rise before dawn and deprive yourself of sleep when you are desperate for God to intervene in your life? Are you seeking a deep relationship with God or is he simply there to make your life trouble free? Seek the Lord when the tree is green and invite him into every area of your life and thank him constantly for his deep love for you.
Prayer – Lord, give us a heart to seek you and deepen our relationship whether things are great or difficult. We do not want to be the adult child that only calls when they need money. Amen.
