Scripture – “He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers is covenant forever.” Psalm 111:5
Observation – God created water, fruits, vegetables, grains and meat and he gives these to those who fear him.
Application – This is why people pray before eating. They understand that without God’s provision we would die. Fearing God means that we have an understanding that he is the all-powerful creator and has expectations for how we live. He is holy and he expects us to live holy lives. He is our father and wants to have a close relationship with us. When a person claims that all of the good things we get to enjoy on this earth are an accident, that we are all here by blind chance because one cell mutated a certain way billions of years ago and that the sun just happens to be where it is and we just happen to have oxygen, well that type of thinking is going to bring about judgement. Think about being a great parent and having your kids enjoy the fruits of your labor but they never acknowledge you, respect you or thank you. You would still love your kids but you would be angry and sad and would most likely withhold your goodness from them so that they would come to their senses and recognize that they do have a loving parent that took great care of them. You would hope that withholding these kids things would cause them to say they are sorry and want to have a relationship with you. And when they said they were sorry you would forgive them and rejoice in knowing your kids came to their senses and you would continue to bless them and care for them.
Prayer – God thank you for taking great care of us and providing for us. Amen.
