Scripture – “For your ways are in full view of the Lord, and he examines all your paths.”
Proverbs 5:21 NIV
Observation – God is always watching you and examining all your paths
Application – What are your initial feelings when you read this verse? Does it feel like you have no privacy? In Genesis 4:7 God says to Cain, before he murders his brother, “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door, it desires to have you, but you must master it.” When our children, who are now 27, 25 and 20 do something good, they want to tell my wife and I about it. They are proud of themselves, and I want to hear it. When I do something sinful and make a bad choice I don’t call everyone I know and say, “Guess what! Let me tell you about how I sinned and fell short of the glory of God today!” I’m embarrassed and ashamed. I feel guilty because I am guilty. God is all powerful and loves us. He desires that we live holy lives and make better choices today than we did yesterday. Next time you wish he wasn’t watching, thank him for his concern and attention, confess your sins, repent and move on with hope and courage. God’s accountability is infinitely better than his indifference.
Prayer – Lord God, thank you for being concerned about us and loving us. Give us hearts that rejoice in righteousness and detest wickedness so that we are happy you are examining all our paths.
