Scripture – “But there they are, overwhelmed with dread, where there was nothing to dread.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭53‬:‭5‬a

Observation – The people were overwhelmed with fear when there was nothing to fear. Mark Twain was credited with; “I have known many great troubles in my life, but most of them never happened.”

Application – Is your habit of worrying affecting your enjoyment of life? Do you find yourself wresting with your thoughts, anticipating what you think is going to happen? If you are prone to worry you are sabotaging your own life and God wants to come into your heart and give you the gift of peace. If you have worried all of your life, this is going to be a challenging endeavor but it is worth the effort. Begin by acknowledging that your lack of trust, which leads to worry, is a sin and ask God to forgive you. Write down all the ways that God has been faithful in your life and praise him for it. Think back on all your most recent fears and see if they came to be or if they resemble the verse above. Memorize verses like Proverbs 3:5-6 and Philippians 4:6-7 and meditate on them, asking yourself, do I believe that God is powerful and loves me. Please don’t label yourself as someone who “just worries”. This is head trash, don’t give in to it.

Prayer – Lord, you have given us the gift of life and have drawn us into a relationship with you, the all-powerful creator of the universe, thank you for that. Help us with our worries and fears, we don’t want to waste this life being overwhelmed with dread when there is nothing to dread. Amen.
