Scripture – “Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.””
Mark 5:36 NIV
Observation – A man asks Jesus to come to his house and heal his sick daughter when he hears the terrible news that his daughter just died. Before the man can speak Jesus says to him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
Application – King David says in Psalm 56:3, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” God gives us a choice to remain afraid when we sense a threat or trust him. Next time fear rears its ugly head and tries to move you away from God turn your face toward Jesus. Call to mind his goodness and faithfulness and tell him that you trust him and then walk in his presence.
Prayer – Lord God, there are so many things to fear in this world but you have overcome the world. Don’t permit us to give into fear when we know the creator of the entire universe who, while we were still sinners, chose to die for us. If you will do that for us you will certainly deliver us from fear.
