Scripture – “The sixth angel sounded his trumpet, and I heard a voice coming from the four horns of the golden altar that is before God. It said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” And the four angels who had been kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year were released to kill a third of mankind.”
Revelation 9:13-15 NIV
Observation – God is showing us what will happen in the future when he judges mankind for their sins against him and against their fellow man. During this judgement one-third of all people on the earth will die.
Application – Through God’s chosen men, God wrote a book about our lives on earth and what he expects from us, how he loves us, how he views us and how we should view ourselves and others. He tells us very plainly that he created us to be in a close relationship with him but we chose to rebel and go our own way. This rebellion is called sin and sin is what has ruined the world we live in. You may be thinking that you are doing pretty good and the world you live in isn’t ruined. Now you may have a lot of nice people in your life and you may be a very nice person but the world is still ruined. Trillions of dollars are stolen from people and governments every year, people cheat on their taxes all the time, human trafficking exists (think about kidnapping a person and selling them so that other people can have sex with them), people gossip and tear down others constantly, men and women break their marriage vows, people rob, steal, kill, cut corners in their work, lust after their neighbors wives, celebrities, that are already rich, promote alcohol and gambling so they can get richer at the expense of young men’s lives. It is a mess. It wasn’t supposed to be this way. In spite of this God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Repent of your sins today and give your life to Jesus before judgement day comes.
Prayer – God, please forgive us and restore us so we can live lives that glorify you. Amen.
