Scripture – “I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭62‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – Isaiah is calling on the people of Jerusalem to never stop praying and asking God to take action. He provides this image of God being worn out by the Israelites prayers and deciding to answer them so he can rest. This is the same instruction that Jesus gives in Luke 18 “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’ “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’ ” And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?””

‭‭Luke‬ ‭18‬:‭1‬-‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Application – How is your prayer life? Do you persist in prayer or do you find your self growing weary when you don’t hear from God immediately? Listen to what God says about Abraham in Romans 4:20-21, “Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.” When we wear ourselves out and “wear God out” with our prayers we don’t grow tired we are strengthened in our faith and praise God because we know he has the power to do what he has promised.

Prayer – Lord God, I pray for persistent and endurance in my prayer life. Amen.
