Scripture – “The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭12‬:‭18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – Words are powerful. They can be used to hurt people or help people.

Application – Jesus says in Matthew 12:34-37 “You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”” Most of us say kind loving words that help people but we also speak, as Jesus says, “empty words”. When we hurt people with our words we justify it or make excuses, we say that we were frustrated or stressed but we still said them, the words came from somewhere and Jesus says they came from our hearts. The solution is to confess this sin to Jesus and ask him to purify your heart. Our admission to this is good, it means we recognize that our hearts aren’t aligned with Christ and that we believe he can help us.

Prayer – Dear Jesus, forgive me when I use my words sarcastically or passive aggressively. Give me a heart that uses my words to please you. Amen.
