Scripture – “Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults; whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse. Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you; rebuke the wise and they will love you. Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.”
Proverbs 9:7-9 NIV
Observation – If you correct a mocker, a fool, you will be insulted and abused. If you correct a wise person they will be thankful because they will know that you care about them and they now have the opportunity to learn and change.
Application – This applies to us not only as the person that is providing instruction but as the one receiving correction. How do you handle a rebuke or correction from someone? Does it anger you or are you grateful? Do you pull out your list and start telling them all the things they need to work on or do you consider and pray about what they shared with you?
Prayer – Lord, we all need wise people that care about us enough to tell us the truth when we need to hear it. I pray that our hearts would be open to hear the truth. Amen.
