Scripture – “We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.”

‭‭1 John‬ ‭2‬:‭3‬-‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – If you say you know and love Jesus you will obey his commands. If you don’t do what he commands you are a liar and the truth is not in you. When you obey, love for God is made complete in you. We know that we know him when our we start looking more like Jesus.

Application – Why are you not obeying Jesus? What is keeping you from following after him and doing what he says? The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithful, gentleness and self-control. Is this fruit evident in your life? Are you aware that you are lacking in any of these areas? Spend time with Jesus and ask him what you need to do to fully obey him and call on the Holy Spirit to help you. You can’t do this on your own, you are not designed to simply decide you are going to change. God’s Spirit living in you produces this fruit as you learn to trust him and not your own strength. This takes time because the old nature responds first and it needs to be killed in order for the new nature to take over. Don’t worry about losing “who you are” that person is marred with sin. The new you is better because it is Christ in you. For this to be accomplished in a person they have to submit to God and trust that his ways are better than yours.

Prayer – Lord Jesus, give us an overwhelming desire to please you that we are constantly in communication with you so that your will is done and the fruit of the Spirit is evident in our lives.
