Scripture – “Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the Lord.”
Isaiah 31:1 NIV
Observation – God was telling Judah that it was wrong for them to trust in a pagan foreign country for help and not call on and rely on the creator of the universe.
Application – Who are you counting on and who do you trust? When things seem to be headed in the wrong direction or you are seized by fear where do you go for help? Is your bank account your refuge and fortress? Are you relying on the government for help? When we have problems it is wise to go to experts that can help us but we should never avoid asking God for help. Often times people don’t ask God to intervene because they are sinning against him and know that they can’t have it both ways.
Prayer – Lord, thank you that you always listen and will answer those who call on your name. Amen.
