Scripture – “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Psalms 34:17-18 NIV
Observation – People who love and seek God cry out to him when they are in trouble and God answers their prayers. He is not far off but near and saves those whose spirit has been crushed.
Application – A question that may come up as we read these verses is; “If God is powerful enough to deliver us from trouble and save those who are crushed in spirit why doesn’t he prevent trouble and keep us from becoming brokenhearted in the first place?” The Bible tells us all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. This sin causes broken relationships between God and man and between husbands and wives, fathers and sons, mothers and daughters and employer and employees. God has created a world where he has given people the choice to seek him and do what is right or to seek their own glory which leads to brokenness. When this happens and people repent and cry out to God he doesn’t ignore us, he delivers us from all of our troubles.
Prayer – Lord, I thank you that you are a God that is close to us and not far away. Amen.
