Scripture – “Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil. Better a small serving of vegetables with love than a fattened calf with hatred.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭15‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – It is better to have a little with love and God in your life than to have great wealth with strife and hatred.

Application: These verses aren’t presenting a choice. God isn’t saying that all poor people have a great relationship with him and live in a loving home and all rich people are atheists that scream at their family members all day. He is saying you are much better off choosing a little with God and love than to have great wealth with turmoil and hatred. Are you taking time away from God and your family in order to get rich. The Bible says that when God provides wealth he adds no trouble to it. If your wealth is causing you to ignore God and isn’t giving you time with your family maybe it isn’t from God.

Prayer – Lord, you command us to work hard, provide for our families, serve others well, love and worship you and spend lots of time with our families. This can be overwhelming at times. I pray for all believers that you would give them discernment and, if they have to choose, they would choose a little with fear of you than great wealth with turmoil.
