Scripture – “a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time,”

‭‭Titus‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – Paul is telling Titus that our faith and knowledge is resting on the hope of eternal life that God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time.

Application – What motivates you? What is the target of your efforts? In discussions about ambition and goals the antithesis of spirituality is materialism. In these debates people are either focused on the spiritual or the material. This may be true, I’m not sure, but it seems that materialism is a symptom of a deeper heart issue just as generosity and selflessness are usually the product of a new heart. The houses, cars, investments and assets aren’t the problem just as helping the poor and living beneath ones means isn’t proof of a pure heart. If a person believes that God will one day judge the living and the dead and those that love God will receive the gift of eternal life, well then that is going to change how they live. They will be investing their time and money towards things that last for eternity versus things that will be left behind. What you hope for heavily influences your behavior.

Prayer – Lord, I pray that you give us an eternal perspective on our lives so that we invest in people so there are more souls in heaven. Amen.
