Scripture – “While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.” He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.””

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭12‬:‭46‬-‭50‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – Jesus was talking to a crowd and someone told him that his mother and brothers wanted to speak with him. Jesus asked the man, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” Jesus pointed to his disciples and said, “here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother”

Application – If we lived in Jerusalem 2,000 years ago and witnessed twelve men quitting their jobs and walking around with Jesus, we would, at first, thought they had made a huge mistake. We know that Peter was married because Jesus healed his mother-in-law so he had a family that needed food, clothing and shelter. Where did he get money during his time with Jesus? It is amazing that these twelve men followed Jesus for three years and then eleven went on to build the Church. Jesus says that anyone who does the will of his Father in heaven is his brother, sister and mother. How would you say you are doing? What do you feel God is calling you to at this time in your life?

Prayer – Lord, don’t let us waste our lives on things that don’t last. Amen.
