Scripture – “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.”
Proverbs 31:10-12 NIV
Observation – By asking the question, “A wife of noble character who can find?” It seems as if God is saying that a noble woman is rare, as a result, she is worth far more than rubies. Why are rubies valuable? Because they are rare. Why is gravel cheap? It is abundant. The man who finds this noble woman doesn’t worry if she if faithful, he has full confidence in her and she is blessing to him, not a curse like the woman described in Proverbs 21:9 “Better to live on a corner of the roof than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.”
Application – When searching for wife don’t be a fool and look only at the outward appearance, “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Is she devoted to God? Does she speak kindly about people or gossip? Is she humble and willing to say she is sorry or is she manipulative and petty. If you owned a beautiful car but it broke down all the time and cost you a lot of money and frustration you would be sorry you bought it and wished you had purchased a nice reliable car that you could trust. It is better to have both, and you can, but it is rare.
Prayer – Lord, I pray for all the young men out there looking for a wife. I pray they don’t get tricked by a woman that looks good on the outside but is ugly on the inside. I pray they ask you for help and that they work on their own character so they can attract a Proverbs 31 woman.
