Scripture – “Stone is heavy and sand a burden, but a fool’s provocation is heavier than both. Though you grind a fool in a mortar, grinding them like grain with a pestle, you will not remove their folly from them.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭27‬:‭3‬, ‭22‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – In verse 3 God tells us how frustrating it is to be provoked by a foolish person and in verse 22 he compares grinding grain to reasoning with a fool. No matter how hard you work and the logic of your words you will leave exasperated because fools take no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions.

Application – What do you do with a fool in your life? God instructs us to stay away from a fool because you won’t find knowledge on his lips. This is the best course of action, stay away from them. If you find yourself in some unfortunate circumstance where you have to work with a fool have someone else present in your conversations. I’ve found that fools aren’t quite as bold and ugly when more than one person is present.

Prayer – Lord Jesus, provocation from a fool is heavy. Give us wisdom to take action before the provocation becomes heavy. Amen.
