Scripture – ““Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”
Matthew 7:15-20 NIV
Observation – We know what type of tree we are looking at by the fruit it produces. If you walk up to an apple tree and someone tells you it is a cherry tree you know they are wrong. If a person consistently behaves in a bad way and they tell you what a wonderful, caring, spiritual person they are you know they are misleading you.
Application – How about you, what type of fruit are you producing? When someone acts likes a crazy person and yells or puts another person down they will often say, that is not who I am or I acted out of character. Maybe not. Maybe that is exactly who you are and the circumstances of life revealed your true character so you could recognize it and turn to God in true repentance and receive the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ who died for people like you and me. If you are trusting in your own righteousness and goodness you will be cut down and throw into the fire.
Prayer – Lord it is sad when a person finds out the truth about themselves. And it is awesome when they discover that you love them and want to forgive them and give them a new heart. Thank you for that.
