Scripture – “When you sit to dine with a ruler, note well what is before you, and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony. Do not crave his delicacies, for that food is deceptive. Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness. Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle. Do not eat the food of a begrudging host, do not crave his delicacies; for he is the kind of person who is always thinking about the cost. “Eat and drink,” he says to you, but his heart is not with you. You will vomit up the little you have eaten and will have wasted your compliments.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭23‬:‭1‬-‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – When we trust in anything but God there is always a catch or a consequence. If you love delicacies you will will be prone to compromise, if you love money you will learn that it doesn’t fulfill you, if you ally yourself with rich men thinking a relationship with them will help you get where you want to go you find yourself in a difficult position of having to repay them.

Application – “At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him: “Because you relied on the king of Aram and not on the Lord your God, the army of the king of Aram has escaped from your hand. Were not the Cushites and Libyans a mighty army with great numbers of chariots and horsemen? Yet when you relied on the Lord, he delivered them into your hand. For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war.””  2 Chronicles‬ ‭16‬:‭7‬-‭9‬ ‭NIV‬‬. When our hearts are fully committed to the Lord he will strengthen us, when we rely on kings, money or powerful men will be disappointed and we will have to live with the consequences of not trusting God.

Prayer – Lord, don’t ever let us forget your power and care for us. Amen.
