Scripture – “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
Galatians 1:10 NIV
Observation – Paul is talking about the gospel of Christ in the previous verses and how some people are preaching a false gospel. His résponse to this is “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
Application – Do you present a different gospel based on who you are talking to so that they will like you or are you sharing the gospel as it is presented in the Bible? There are many ways to tell people about Jesus and what he has done for us on the cross but we must never preach a gospel other than the true gospel. Some people accept the gospel right away because they understand the depth of their sin but most people need some time to process that if they were judged by God based on their deeds they would be guilty and condemned to hell. No one can appreciate Jesus’ sacrifice unless they believe they need a savior. It is the Christian’s job to help them see they need a savior.
Prayer – Lord, we all want people to like us. Help us not to put our personal need of being liked above someone’s salvation. Amen.
