Scripture – “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”

‭‭

Observation – God put Adam in the Garden of Eden, that God created and owned, and blessed Adam with responsibility of caring for it.

Application – 1 Timothy 6:7 says, “For we brought nothing into the world and we can take nothing out of it.”

Jesus says to the rich young ruler in Mark 10:21 “Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

Psalm 105:44-45 says, “he gave them the lands of the nations, and they fell heir to what others had toiled for— that they might keep his precepts and observe his laws. Praise the Lord.” So what is God communicating to us in these four passages?

  1. God is the owner of everything, not us
  2. We are going to die one day and leave everything behind
  3. While we can’t take it with us we can store up treasures for ourselves in heaven by using what he has entrusted us with to serve and love him and bless others
  4. God blesses us with the responsibility of managing his material possessions so that we can bless him by obeying his commands and living in a way that honors him

Prayer – Lord, the first step is for Christians is to understand that everything we have is a gift from you, even when we worked for it because you give us the ability to produce wealth. Change our hearts to be generous and loving so that people see our good deeds and praise you. Amen.
