Scripture – “The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat. “Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod.” They discussed this with one another and said, “It is because we have no bread.” Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened? Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember? When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?” “Twelve,” they replied. “And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?” They answered, “Seven.” He said to them, “Do you still not understand?””

‭‭Mark‬ ‭8‬:‭14‬-‭21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – Jesus multiplied the loaves and fed thousands of people for the second time and tells his disciples to watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and of Herod. The disciples think he is talking about bread because they didn’t bring any with them. He was telling them to watch out for their teachings. Jesus then rebukes them for worrying about food when he miraculously multiplied the loaves two separate times.

Application – We are exactly the same as the disciples. God has provided for us every day since we have been on the planet and yet we worry about what is next, forgetting how he has brought us through trials and temptations in the past. Next time you begin to worry, stop and really think about all the times God has been there for you. Praise him for his provision and care and believe that he will do it again and again and again.

Prayer – Lord Jesus, thank you for taking care of us and help us to focus on what you have done and what you can do instead of thinking you don’t care. Amen.
