Scripture – “Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – God says that if give the first portion of our income to him he will bless us so much that we will have an excess, so much that “our barns will be filled to overflowing and our vats will brim over with new wine”.

Application – Tony Evans once said that if we withhold our tithes and offerings God will put a hole on our pockets so our wealth doesn’t increase. This is from Haggai 1:3-6 “Then the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai: “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?” Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.”” When you prioritize your comfort and personal goals over God’s commands, putting yourself first and God second, or third, or fourth… then your car will break, your plumbing will leak and it will see situation after situation eating away at your savings. God will use financial frustration to get your attention so that you live in a way that glorifies him and serves those he loves.

Prayer – Lord, help each one of us to seek first your kingdom and your righteousness so that you can bless the work of our hands and give us what we need. Amen.
