Scripture – “The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires.”
Proverbs 11:6 NIV
Observation – Righteous people do what is right and they are delivered from fear because they don’t do anything that deserves punishment. The unfaithful have their hearts set on wickedness. They are captivated by evil desires which lead to selfish and sometimes unethical actions.
Application – The righteous person has the desire for companionship, success, good health and respect but their overarching desire is to please God so they won’t compromise their integrity to attain their goals. The unfaithful are controlled by evil desires and have fallen into a trap so that their seared conscience tells them to do whatever it takes to satisfy these desires. If they bend the rules or hurt others they justify it because, well, it’s a tough world out there and only the strong survive. Which one are you?
Prayer – Lord, in our zeal and competitiveness help us to always keep you in front of us so that we bring you glory in all we do and don’t have to fear the authorities. Amen.
