Scripture – “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – Before God the Father drew us to Jesus we were dead in our transgressions and sins. We looked at ourselves and thought we were “good”. We minimized or completely discounted our sins and highlighted our “good deeds”. A lot of times we would give ourselves credit for our good intentions, things we thought of doing but hadn’t even done yet. We followed the ways of this world and were controlled by Satan.

Application – I don’t know if anyone can do this on their own. The more stories I hear about Jesus saving people the more convinced I am that we have very little or no contribution to our salvation. That being said, the application is to seek God and ask him to show you your sin and ask him to redeem you and forgive you.

Prayer – Lord, I pray for people who don’t know you, that they would have an accurate view of themselves and would realize that they are by nature deserving of wrath and that they would come to you for forgiveness and salvation.
