Scripture – “Blessed is the one you discipline, Lord, the one you teach from your law; you grant them relief from days of trouble, till a pit is dug for the wicked.”
Psalms 94:12-13 NIV
Observation – If you are being disciplined by God you are blessed because the discipline you receive today will motivate you to change the way you think and behave. These changes, which would have not come about without God disciplining you, will help you avoid foolish decisions in the future. The pain you experience from God’s discipline today is small compared to the devastating consequences you would have suffered had God not intervened through correction.
Application – “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”
Hebrews 12:11 NIV. When we are disciplined by God it is painful but, as Hebrews 12:11 states, it produces a righteous life for those who learn from it. When you are disciplined by God remember that he is correcting you because he loves you and wants your life to be free from sin and the pain it causes in our lives and the lives of those we love.
Prayer – Dear God, discipline is painful but I’m grateful for it because it causes us to live lives that make you happy and gives us strong relationships with our loved ones. Amen.
