Scripture – “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.”
John 3:36 NIV
Observation – John summarizes Chapter 3 in verse 36 stating that belief/faith in Jesus is what brings eternal life and rejecting Jesus leads to eternal death with God’s wrath remaining on us. In John 3:18 Jesus says, ““Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” And in John 3:3 “Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”” We need to be born again and have faith in Jesus because our deeds are evil and we have sinned and rebelled against our creator. The only way to get back into a right relationship with God is to accept Jesus’ death on the cross as payment for our sins so that we don’t have to pay.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16.
Application – Compare your life to the 10 commandments and ask yourself how you are going to do on judgement day. Have you kept all of the commandments? No one has. This is why Jesus chose to die for us. If you have broken any of the commandments you are a lawbreaker and are deserving of punishment. Jesus chose to take your sin upon himself when he died on the cross. You can be forgiven through asking for forgiveness, repenting of your sin and choosing to follow and trust Jesus with your life.
Prayer – Lord Jesus, I pray for anyone who hasn’t trusted you that they would give their life to you today and for those that do believe in you I pray their life today would reflect your power in how they live and give. Amen.
