Scripture – “A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom, but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother. Discipline your children, and they will give you peace; they will bring you the delights you desire. Servants cannot be corrected by mere words; though they understand, they will not respond. A servant pampered from youth will turn out to be insolent.”
Proverbs 29:15, 17, 19, 21 NIV
Observation – The four verses above state that a lack of discipline in a child’s life will bring disgrace but disciplining your child will bring peace. These verses also emphasize that the discipline can’t just be words, some type of painful consequences must be present for it to have an effect. If you spoil your kids it will come back to bite you in the future.
Application – You are putting in the time and effort as a parent no matter what. You either take the time to love, discipline and train your kids when they are young or you are forced to invest time trying to help them get out of trouble when they are older. The former is fun and rewarding the latter is filled with pain and regret.
Prayer – Lord, give young parents wisdom and energy to love and discipline their kids when they are young so they bring them peace later. Help us to accept your love and discipline today so we bring you joy. Amen.
