Scripture – “Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding.”
Proverbs 23:23 NIV
Observation – God is instructing us to seek out the truth and when we find it, though is cost all we have, to buy it. ““The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.”
Matthew 13:44.
Application – In John Chapter 8 we read, “To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”” In John Chapter 14 “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” The truth we are buying is Jesus. He is life, he is truth. What is the price we pay? Like the man in Matthew 13, who sold all he had, what are we selling? It is our very life, we give Jesus everything; control of our mouths, our calendar and are wallets. This sounds like a lot because it is, but when you understand this life is short and while we are here we have the opportunity to give up what we cannot keep to gain what we cannot lose it is worth it.
Prayer – Lord Jesus, we can’t make this decision or live it out without you, the pull of this world is too strong, I pray you draw us close and protect our hearts so we always buy the truth and not sell it for something much less valuable. Amen.
