Scripture “And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.”
Revelation 5:9 NIV
Observation – Jesus, through his death, purchased people’s souls for God with his blood. Not just Jews, not just people born with parents who went to church but people from every tribe, language, people and nation.
Application – The lies you have told, the things you have stolen, the adultery you have committed in your heart and the blasphemy of your mouth has earned you God’s judgement. You are outside God’s kingdom and left to your own righteousness, you have no hope. Even though you have lived like this Jesus values you, you are important to him. He loves you so much he died on a cross and shed his blood so you could be purchased for God. The application for the second part of the verse is to those who think they are better or smarter or more highly favored than others. Anyone who loves Jesus is your brother and sister in Christ. If you don’t feel that way repent and ask God to give you a loving heart.
Prayer – Dear God, you are good, thank you for dying for us and saving us even though our deeds have earned us death. Amen.
