Scripture – “When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.” The Jews then responded to him, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” But the temple he had spoken of was his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.”

Observation – Jesus drove people out of the temple courts with a whip because they had turned God’s house into a market and Jesus was angry and offended. The Jews asked him to give them a sign to prove he had the authority to do this. He responded “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” But the temple he had spoken of was his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.”
Application – All of Christianity relies on Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. If this event did not occur Jesus is not God, he is not the Savior of the World and everyone following him is to be pitied more than all men because they are trying to convince the world to believe a lie, they are investing their time worshipping a false God and they are giving money to their church when they could go on vacation or buy a new car. If this event did occur it means that Jesus is God, that he is Savior of the World and that he is coming back one day to take those who love and serve him to be with him forever in eternal glory. Those who reject his death and resurrection and his offer for eternal life will be separated from him in hell. If he did rise from the dead it means that everything he said is true and we should invest a lot of our time understanding his message and applying it to our short lives on this earth.
Prayer – Lord, I believe this is true and thank you for dying for me so I can be forgiven. Amen.
