Scripture – “You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬-‭20‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – The church in Laodicea had acquired wealth which led to them thinking they didn’t need a thing, even God. Jesus told them they were wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. Jesus counseled them to get true lasting riches that can only come through a right relationship with him. Jesus said that he was standing at the door and knocking and if anyone heard his voice he would come in and eat with that person and they with him.

Application – Isn’t it incredible that we can have such a radically different view of ourselves than God does. In this case they thought they were doing great because God had blessed them with material wealth but God said they were pitiful and wretched. Other times we feel worthless and God reminds us that we are so valuable that he sent his only son to die for us. God values a relationship with us and how we live in this world more than he values what we accomplish and accumulate in this world. He is knocking on the door of your heart, can you hear him? If so are you willing to let him in and believe that knowing and walking with him is better than the material wealth you are storing up for yourself?

Prayer – Lord Jesus, you said it best in Matthew 6:33, when we seek you we get you and you take care of us and we get to live in this world with purpose and peace. Thank you for continuing to pursue us and not giving up. Amen.
