Scripture – “But those who are considered worthy of taking part in the age to come and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage, and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God’s children, since they are children of the resurrection. But in the account of the burning bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord ‘the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.””

‭‭Luke‬ ‭20‬:‭35‬-‭38‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – Jesus makes a distinction between people. Some will consider themselves worthy of taking part in the age to come and the resurrection and they never die. Jesus talks about people that have physically died but are spiritually alive and are in God’s presence, living as children of God.

Application – While everyone will be resurrected from the dead, not all will be God’s children. John 1:10-13 says, “He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” We are not born children of God we become children of God through believing in Jesus and receiving him as our savior. If you haven’t done this you will be resurrected but you won’t go to heaven. You will be eternally separated from God in hell because you rejected him while you lived on earth and he will honor your choice in eternity.

Prayer – Lord, I pray for those who have rejected you, I pray that you give them another opportunity to accept your death on the cross as payment for their sin so they can take part in the age to come. Amen.
