Scripture – “Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor.”
Proverbs 21:21 NIV
Observation – If your goal is to do everything the right way while putting God and other people’s needs ahead of your own the reward you will receive is life, prosperity and honor. In Matthew Chapter 6 Jesus tells us not to worry about our life, what we will eat or drink, or about our body or what we will wear. Jesus asks, “Is not life more important than food and the body more important than clothes?” He tells us that pagans run after all these things but we don’t need to be anxious or expend our energy in this pursuit because our Heavenly Father knows we need them and he will provide for us. Jesus goes on to say, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Application – If you truly want a successful life, God’s definition of success is clear: put Him first and put others ahead of yourself. When we live this way, success becomes the byproduct rather than the pursuit. Zig Ziglar once said, “You can have everything you want in life if you just help others get what they want.” That mindset reflects the heart of Proverbs 21:21. Think about the people you most respect and enjoy doing business with—aren’t they the ones who are kind, trustworthy, and genuinely looking out for your interests? A life marked by righteousness and love naturally attracts favor, influence, and opportunity because people are drawn to those they can trust.
Prayer – Lord Jesus, help our faith grow so that we fully trust you to take care of us and are freed up to serve and love you and other without worry. Amen.
