Scripture – “First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds.”
Acts 26:20 NIV
Observation – Paul said he preached to people that they should repent of their sins, turn to God and demonstrate they have been saved by how they live, by going around and doing good. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” James 2:18, states, “But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.” What Paul is saying is that salvation is a gift from God through faith in God, you cannot earn it. He goes on to say that the proof of salvation is a changed life. If the Holy Spirit dwells in you your life is going to look much different than it did before you experienced Jesus’ forgiveness.
Application – If you have professed that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised him from the dead you are saved. How has your life changed? If you were on trial today for being a Christian would your life convict you or are you living like a secret agent and blending in with everyone around you? If your life hasn’t changed it may be that you haven’t put in the effort to spend time with Jesus and to permit him to be your king. Start spending time with your creator and allow him to live in you and work through you. You won’t regret it, this is why he made you.
Prayer – Lord Jesus, I pray for every believer, that we would all live such holy blameless sacrificial lives that those around us long to have what we have. Amen.
