Scripture – “But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”
Luke 6:35-36 NIV
Observation – Jesus tells us to love people that hate us and lend to them without expecting to get repaid. Jesus says, if we do this, he will reward us and we will be children of the Most High. God is kind to the ungrateful and wicked and he wants us to imitate Jesus so he calls us to be merciful just as our Father in Heaven in merciful.
Application – Think of a couple of people that treat you badly and be kind to them during your next interaction. This doesn’t mean they get to verbally abuse you while you hand them money, but it does mean that you set boundaries in a calm voice and bless them while they curse you. This is impossible to do on your own. You will need the power of the Holy Spirit to carry this out.
Prayer – Lord, this is a difficult command, give us your strength and power to obey so that you are glorified. Amen.
