Scripture “I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes. In their own eyes they flatter themselves too much to detect or hate their sin.”
Psalms 36:1-2 NIV
Observation – David, a servant of the Lord, claims that God gave him a message regarding the wicked, they don’t fear God at all, they love themselves so much that they cannot detect or hate their sin. They have no self-awareness of how their selfish sinful actions affect those around them.
Application – In 1989 a company called “No Fear” came out with a clothing line that had “No Fear” on all of their clothes. It was very successful and people wore the clothes proudly to proclaim to the world that they laughed at fear and when they stared “Fear” face to face they punched it in the mouth. That sounds awesome when you are about to do a trick on a bike or skateboard but it is bad advice when it comes to God. Jesus said, “I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.” We didn’t choose to be born, we just ended up here, most people don’t choose the day of their death, it comes upon us all, whether you want it or not. We do however to get to choose what happens after we die. If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you will be saved, but if you reject Christ you will not see life because God’s wrath you remain on you. If we are living a wicked life or have rejected God’s savior we should live in fear because judgement day is coming whether we believe it or not. Fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, it is not foolish or weak, but prudent and wise.
Prayer – Lord, I pray you open the eyes of the wicked so that they can see clearly that they need a savior so they do not die in their sins. Amen.
