Scripture – “My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you. Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and to insight, “You are my relative.””
Proverbs 7:1-4 NIV
Observation – God is giving us instructions on how to live a good life. He is telling us to keep his commands and memorize his word so that we know what to do in every situation. He wants us to be so familiar with his teachings that they are like our siblings or a close relative. His goal for us is to know his word really really well and to obey it.
Application – If you truly love God and believe that Jesus died on a cross to for your sins. If you believe God is watching over you and God determines your steps in this life. If you believe that God is pleased with some of your decisions and disappointed in others, if you believe that one day you will die and come face to face with the creator of the universe. If you believe this then the only logical thing for you to do is to take action and read his word every day and to memorize his word so you can store it up in your heart. To do otherwise makes no sense, it is as if you are saying I believe and I don’t believe in the same breath.
Prayer – Lord Jesus, you say, ““Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”” The first step is to hear your words, I pray that everyone who says they love you would spend lots of time reading your word so they can actually say to wisdom, you are my sister and to insight, you are my relative. Amen.
