Scripture – “My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭20‬-‭22‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – This father is urging his son to listen to what he is telling him. He is emphasizing that his words should be stored up in the young man’s heart and that these words will bring him a good life.

Application – Who do you listen to? Where do you go for wisdom and instruction? If you are young, are you relying on your limited life experience to help you navigate all of the important decisions you get to make that will determine the quality of your life and relationships? There are many ways to learn how to live successfully; we learn through experience, books, friends, family, mentors and through the failure and success of others. God is the creator of the universe, he made all of us and everything we see. Man didn’t create real estate transactions, or physics, or medicine or carpentry, God did, and he allowed man to discover all of these disciplines. God claims that wisdom, the application of knowledge to live successfully, can be found in his word. If you ignore it you will stumble in this life and not know why, you will be frustrated wondering how you can attain a good life full of peace and blessings, but this life will prove to be elusive if you reject God’s word.

Pray – Lord God, the Bible isn’t just words on a page, it is our life. I pray people will set aside time each day to discover the wisdom you have for them, so they can enjoy peace and purpose on this earth. Amen.
