Scripture
“The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple… By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward.”
— Psalm 19:7, 11 (NIV)
Observation
God declares that His Word is perfect and trustworthy. It restores the soul and gives wisdom to those who seek it. Scripture warns us of danger and guides us away from harm, and God promises blessing and reward to those who obey His commands and walk in His ways.
Application
Where does wisdom come from for someone who does not read God’s Word? Much of it comes from experience—successes and failures alike. We also gain wisdom from books, media, friends, and family. But there is a profound difference between the wisdom of this world and the wisdom of God.
The world’s wisdom is primarily self-focused: how to improve yourself, strengthen your body, increase your wealth, optimize your sleep, or enhance your performance. God’s wisdom addresses those things as well, but it goes deeper. It speaks to the inner person. God’s Word tells us the truth about who we are—with Him and without Him—and directs us toward true success, not only in this life but for eternity.
God did not merely give us instructions; He became a man and showed us how to live. Through His Word, Jesus warns us, shapes us, and promises reward to those who obey. Imagine how radically different our world would be if people simply obeyed a little. What if no one gossiped? What if everyone honored their father and mother? What if lies ceased altogether?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your Word. I praise You that You both warn us and reward us. Amen.
