Scripture – “The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways, but the folly of fools is deception. The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps.”
Proverbs 14:8, 15 NIV
Observation – Wise people ask lots of questions, do research, ask God for guidance and take their time in making decisions. Fools believe what people tell them and jump without thinking of the consequences.
Application – I used to give myself credit for being decisive versus “over thinking” a decision. What I have learned is that I wasn’t decisive because of my knowledge but because I didn’t want to put the hard work into seeking God’s wisdom, asking for advice from wise people, considering the circumstances and then getting neutral where I didn’t have any preference except that God’s will be done in my life. If you really want something badly, to the point you have the fear of missing out, you should stop what you are doing and pray, seek wise counsel, look at the circumstances and get neutral so that you eliminate emotions and can make a prudent decision that will benefit you and your family.
Prayer – Lord Jesus, don’t allow us to make emotional decisions that lead to regret. Give us wisdom to give thought to our ways.
