Scripture – “Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.””
Matthew 28:16-20 NIV
Observation – In the Gospel of Mark the Bible says that after Jesus spoke these words he was taken up into heaven, so these are some of the last things Jesus spoke to his disciples before he left earth. In Acts 1:3 it states, “After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.” Even after all of this Matthew 28:17 tells us that some doubted.
Application – It is hard to understand how some could doubt after everything they had experience but their doubt didn’t prevent them from pursuing Jesus and worshipping him and ours shouldn’t either. When doubts creep in don’t create distance between you and Jesus, draw closer to him, pray more and read the Bible a little longer each day. His increased presence will fill your heart with hope and peace as you trust in him.
Pray – Lord Jesus, when doubts cloud our spiritual vision I pray that you would give us hearts that trust and persevere. Amen.
