Scripture – “Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered.”
Matthew 21:18-19 NIV
Observation – Jesus approaches a fig tree because he is hungry but found nothing so he cursed the tree and it immediately withered.
Application – Jesus says in John 15:4-6 “Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.” If we are aligned with Jesus the outcome of our lives will be to bear fruit for his kingdom. If we are not aligned with him we won’t bear fruit. Audit your life, how does it look, are you bearing fruit? If not get closer to Jesus, spend more time with him and ask him to fulfill his purpose for you. Today is Saturday, if you are a man and are spending your Saturday on a couch, by yourself, watching a football game, and you can’t name one player on either team, you need to spend time with Jesus today so he can fulfill his purpose for you. You may say, you don’t know what my week was like, don’t judge me? It’s too late, you have been judged! As James Brown says,

And try to release that pressure

And get aligned with Jesus
Prayer – Lord, I pray that your Holy Spirit fills us today, that we wouldn’t be satisfied to waste a day that you have made. I pray that we would take these gifts you have blessed us with, our energy, time, talents and love for you and go make someone else’s day better. AMEN!!
