Scripture – “Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!””

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭20‬:‭17‬-‭19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation – This is the third time that Jesus predicted his death and resurrection from the dead. Even though Jesus clearly told his disciples three times that this would happen they were still confused and disillusioned when it did occur.

Application – We read this and may ask ourselves how could they have not known that Jesus would be killed and rise from the dead. Often times we will ignore all the signs that are showing us something difficult is about to occur because we simply don’t want it happen so our subconscious convinces us that it is all going to turn out okay. When it finally transpires we are shocked and confused.

Prayer – Jesus, help us to trust you when life looks bleak. We know that is it never hopeless with you. Help us to be honest about what is happening around us so we can come to you for help. Amen.
