Scripture – “Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.”
Proverbs 14:29 NIV
Observation – A person that remains calm and asks good questions, trying to gain understanding during a trial is wise but the person that throws a fit, blames those around them and gets angry is a fool.
Application – Which one are you, the patient wise person or the fool that is quick tempered? People that are quick tempered actually give themselves credit for being this way, in the aftermath of treating people poorly and yelling they will say that they are ultra competitive or have high standards or won’t tolerate poor performers. All of that may be true, but the reason they get so angry is because they aren’t patient and, in this situation, are foolish. The Bible says that the prudent person gives thought to their ways so they anticipate what could contribute to a bad outcome and take precautions and make plans to avoid poor results and increase the likelihood of a good outcome. This involves in-depth planning, clear direction, deadlines and accountability. If the steps above are well executed there will be no temptation to be quick-tempered.
Prayer – Lord, you rule over a righteous kingdom, help us to be patient and never quick-tempered. Amen.
